MYSORE-STYLE PRACTICE
ASHTANGA YOGA MYSORE STYLE PRACTICE
The traditional method of practicing Ashtanga Yoga.
Students move through the sequence at their own pace with individualized guidance from the teacher. This is the most effective, sustainable way to build a personal practice that grows with you.

A rare, lineage-rooted offering unique to Yoga Commons.
Modeled after the Ashtanga Mysore method, students learn and develop their Dharma sequences step-by-step with hands-on support, individualized attention, and space to explore the more meditative and devotional aspects of the practice.

DHARMA YOGA MYSORE STYLE PRACTICE
BEGINNER’S MYSORE (ASHTANGA OR DHARMA YOGA)
Beginner’s Mysore is the best place to start if you want to learn the Ashtanga or Dharma method with confidence. This is a one-on-one introductory session held inside the Mysore room reserved for one student only per class to ensure focused, supportive guidance. Must be booked by 10pm the night before. DYNAMIC CLASSES
A guided version of the Ashtanga Primary Series sequence taught at a steady, counted pace. This class helps you refine breath, alignment, and transitions while building strength, stamina, and focus.
Best for students with some Ashtanga experience (or those familiar with the Primary Series). Modifications and options are always offered.
LED PRIMARY SERIES
Dharma Yoga is a complete traditional yoga practice where postures are approached as a moving meditation — a way to experience the interconnectedness of mind, body, and heart. The practice develops concentration, contentment, strength, and flexibility while emphasizing compassion and inner awareness.
This is a mixed-levels class for anyone looking to move and be moved. Expect a full practice including asana, pranayama, deep relaxation, and meditation. Each class will vary, drawing from Dharma I, II, or III sequences.
DHARMA YOGA
A creative, energizing practice inspired by the Ashtanga Yoga series. This is a mixed level class that invites you to challenge yourself through exploration and play, while staying accessible through modifications to honor the body’s present abilities. Expect fun transitions, accessible arm balances, and options to explore inversions.
Always taught with safety, clarity, and grounding. All levels welcome.
ROCKET YOGA
STILLNESS + RECOVERY CLASSES
A deeply grounding class that combines long-held, floor-based Yin postures with a guided Yoga Nidra meditation. Yin helps release tension in the deeper tissues and calm the nervous system; Yoga Nidra invites the body into profound rest and mental clarity. A supportive class for all levels and a reset for full, busy weeks..
YIN + YOGA NIDRA
Unwind and restore in this unique class that combines the deep stillness of Yin Yoga with the healing techniques of myofascial release. MyoYin targets the body's connective tissues and fascia, releasing tension, improving mobility, and fostering a sense of balance. Each session incorporates Yin postures paired with self-massage techniques using tools like therapy balls to enhance flexibility, reduces stiffness, and support the body's natural healing processes. This class offers a nourishing practice for all levels.
MYOYIN
A soothing, restorative practice combining slow Yin postures with a relaxing sound bath. The long-held shapes open the body, while the resonance of singing bowls helps quiet the mind and ease the nervous system. Accessible to all levels and perfect for deep relaxation.
SOUND BATH + YIN YOGA
A quiet, steady practice focused on breath, concentration and meditation. Learn foundational pranayama techniques to regulate the nervous system and prepare the mind for stillness, followed by meditation to cultivate clarity, focus, and ease. No experience necessary.
PRANAYAMA + MEDITATION
SKILLS-BASED CLASSES
A weekly skill-building class focused on handstands, forearm stands, and inversion fundamentals. Includes strength work, mobility drills, technique breakdown, and playful exploration — all with options for beginners and experienced practitioners. Open to all levels.
INVERSIONS
A steady, thoughtful practice that explores traditional yoga postures with an emphasis on internal structure, intelligent cueing, and mindful engagement. Props are used as needed to support healthy alignment and create balance between strength and ease. This class is grounding, clarifying, and accessible for both beginners and experienced practitioners.
ALIGNMENT + AWARENESS
Move with intention through an all-levels flow that blends intelligent alignment, gentle mobility work, and breath-based transitions. This class focuses on creating strength through softness, helping you feel supported, open, and connected in your body and mind. You’ll explore functional movement patterns, asanas, and breath techniques to improve mobility, stability, and body awareness. Expect a grounding practice that meets you where you are while encouraging ease, resilience, and presence. Open to all levels. Modifications and progressions offered.
MINDFUL MOBILITY
You'll learn safe and effective strength training techniques tailored to complement your practice, prevent injury, and enhance poses that demand power and control. Expect strength-focused movement drills, education on form, alignment & muscle engagement, and breath-to-movement integration. This class takes place at A Better U Health Club, 10560 Main St #19, Fairfax, VA 22030. On the back corner of Mosby tower next to Yoga Commons.
